The Never Ending Story:
January 5th, 1970 was the beginning of an era. Unmatched in television history, for more than 41 years, “All My Children” was the gold standard for the entire industry of Soap Operas. More than 40 years later, Susan Lucci is the most definitive personality of the entire Soap Opera / Telenovela genre.
Five artists were collected, each with their own way to capture and celebrate the ageless television goddess. The opening of the show will be celebrated September 15th, with refreshments and a number of the artists on hand. The show is sponsored by Radish Underground, a charming boutique and gallery tucked just below Burnside in Downtown Portland’s West End.
Johnny Acurso: The Oregon native is noted for being adept at capturing images in a way that are both nostalgic and extremely modern. Anyone familiar with Johnny’s work from the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles or his work with Time-Out New York, McGraw Hill, The Portland Mercury or MTV will agree that he is the perfect artist to bring Susan Lucci to life in a painting.
Roxanne Patruznick: Has always had a passion for capturing the human figuare with oil paints. Her style uses technical painting skills to capture a story within the image. This often leads gives her subjects a film noir, femme fatale mystique.
Amanda Lynn: Coming from a traditional fine art background, Amandalynn takes her expertise in art and painting into an array of applications. She studied at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and received a Bachelor’s of Fine Art with an Illustration major. She has an inexhaustible imagination and energy for the development and production of any and all types of art. She recently has begun further expanding her skills into the fashion design industry and merchandising display.
Jackie Avery: Jackie’s style is equal parts nostalgia and narrative. Born into a family of artists, Jackie was a master of the technical aspects of painting at a very young age, and was able to spend the majority of her life cultivating her one of a kind style. Each viewer sees a full story in each piece, and for each viewer the story is different. Her work’s beauty and uniqueness is dictated not only by her internal inspiration, but also by the viewers own imagination.
Myah Bailey: Known best for her digital illustrations and tilt-shift photography, Myah is an artist who enjoys exploring new and unorthodox processes. Myah was raised in Hartford Connecticut, received a BFA from Eastern Michigan University and currently resides in Portland. Her work has been featured on the websites of Share Some Candy, Juxtapoz and Atelier.
Andrew Constantine’s life has continuously revolved around creating visual art. Fifteen years of academics ultimately yielded him a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Letters from Portland State University — three universities, eight majors and 12 years after first setting foot on a college campus. Primarily featuring boldly colored human subjects, often combined with macabre and/or religious imagery, Andrew’s images are an eclectic mix of painting, photography and printmaking that reside in a realm somewhere between early Byzantine idols and modern graphic novel illustration.
